This and that
Well I have been very busy over the last few days – hence my silence, been job hunting, playing tennis, etc etc.
Time for a bike ride now – back later.

Ah Windows
I have some DeltaIT business, fixing up a computer :) – the usual Windows reinstall/clean up. Don’t you love how Windows deteriorates so quickly? Works for me if I’m getting paid to fix it :D. Pity there is no money in linux there… being that it is always the same as the day you installed it, but I guess we can’t have it both ways.

Tennis
Played a very close game yesterday! Tied at one set all we played a super tiebraker to decide the match as we were running out of time. Tim and I started strong but found ourselves down 9-6 (ie. 3 match points). Lady Luck was on our side though, we eventually managed to scrape a win. The Clem Jones wind certainly made the game “interesting”.
Ausopen starts soon :D :D – it shall be good methinks.

I hate shopping
I hate shopping
I hate shopping
I hate shopping
I hate shopping
shopping hates me
It seemed that every decent pair of sneakers I found (in my price range) weren’t in my size due to the bloody specials…. >:(
I finally found a pair that I liked in Myer (ah, that store has everything, maybe I should confine myself to there…) but of course they only had half a size down and half a size up from my size *grr* – I got the slightly larger one in the _end_ which is cool.

Donny Darko
Thanks Azure for this roffle-worthy mp3 – anyone who has seen Donny Darko will probably like it – anyone who hasn’t, go see it (and probably ignore the mp3)!!.
Download “DonnieDarko-LifeExcerciseOne.mp3″
You want that mp3.

Qantm
I have given some thought to the Qantm IT – gaming course that is offered in Brisbane over the last few weeks – I shall share my research.
Qantm Web page: http://qantm.com.au
The one year degree is a Diploma of IT (Software Engineering) specialising in game deveilopment. You can do it online – (and there is more info here) http://qantmonline.indelta.com.au/courses.htm#ica50299
It has two drawbacks however which have made me decide not to do it. Firstly – it cots over 6 grand that isn’t covered by hecs (ie. more than a uni year which IS covered by hecs). And since we are all skilled Software Engineers – some of that stuff would be wasted.
I am still interested in that field of employment – so I am taking three steps to advance my knowledge in that area:
* I shall try and wangle a (probably Java3d since it is more at the forefront of technology) 3d honours thesis
* I shall try and wangle myself into that Games subject which us piddly honours students can’t normally do (bloody uni…)
* I shall attempt to skill up in j3d and DX in my spare time.
One thing which looked very cool with Qantm was their use of the Auran (big brisbane based software company – http://www.auran.com/) jet engine to create games.
Speaking of Auran – what an awesome job that would be!! Check out these screenshots from one of their games (web page here)

2003 Resolutions
Well I have 3
* Get a job
* Move out of home
* Get a girlfriend
Honours would be nice somewhere in there too :D
The second is explicitly tied to the first. The third benifits from both of the others.

New Years
Well I had a fun time. I ended up piking on the party and spending new years eve with Erin and a few other mates (Red, and Matty). We saw LOTR TTT again :D (3rd time now, yet still that movie holds up) and then went to Erins, and watched LOTR FotR (extended edition) which I hadn’t seen (the extended bits). They should have kept the start!!! if at the least the bit where the ring betrays the son of isuldor (pardon spelling). Infact /me votes they make RotK 4 hours – with 10min interval (sif the cinemas would complain – everyone would head strait to the candy bar).
And who will say the “return of the king *ding*” line?? place your bets now people.

PHP Date issues fixed
Despite timezone differences – both tank/php and deltait/php time() functions return a GMT unix timestamp. And date() seems to format it correctly depending ont he timezone of the server but accepts GMT times. I am a little puzzled – the docs arn\’t exactally clear and I was thinking that time() gave you a local timestamp much like in C. Oh well – it appears to be working now.
