KaZaA Light ++

KaZaA-light is back (and you don’t need KaZaA to download it).

Lions

Went to the game last night and saw the Lions demolish the Crows. Still, fun match.

Learnt two things:
a) never order seats with “restricted viewing”
b) ever woundered how the TV times it so perfectly when they show ads after a goal to always show the bounce? No, they don’t have a time delay on the broadcast – the ref actually waits for a signal (a flashing light) before he goes.

My Dell system

Well, I found out what happened to the computer Dell made up for me :)

*roffle*

I just got a call from a guy named John who had my computer delivered to him (complete with my invoice, and phone number). After we had a chat, it seemed he had ordered the exact same system as mine, except only 512MB ram (I was getting 1GB), and a slightly slower processer (a 745, instead of a 755 – the Centrino crazy numbering). Dell must have figured close enough so they gave him mine.

Naturally, we discussed this theory, and I told him I was actually slightly annoyed at Dell for keeping my money longer than they should so he may as well keep the free upgrade. I knew I was getting ripped off too – he paid a whole thousand less for a system only slightly lower spec than mine.

So I just made someone’s day I think.

The Chaser

nobody told me they had a website!

I am still laughing at this one from the archives:

Since the events of September 11, support for Mr Howard in Australia is at an all-time high. Even several left-wing commentators have praised the Australian people for favouring the Coalition in this time of great uncertainty. The terrorists have shown their willingness to assassinate world leaders by attempting to attack the White House, one said. Surely this is not the time to be removing John Howard from office.

Ripped off…

It seems you have to be very careful and vidulant these days to avoid companies from ripping you off.

Recently, I have had several companies try to rip me off: $2 from Brisbane Transport, a hundred from Citibank and several thousand (and then once that was resolved, a further hundred) from Dell Computers.

34 days, as many phone calls and a registered letter to Dell appears to have sorted out the latter. A monthly reminder to citibank rewards to tell them I was still waiting for my reward sorted that out after four months, and a phone call to BT has scored me a free ticket :)

Of course, only time will tell if Dell computers and BT actually deliver what they have promised – but getting a call from each of them in the last two hours is encouraging :)

I guess I will only need to post the abridged & name-censored version of my Dell story after all :)

Regardless of the outcomes, it’s a pain in the arse that these things require so much effort when they could easily have been fixed correctly the first time.

wireless router

If you are using a router with Bigpond – make sure you disable the windows BPA Login client (if you still have it installed). The manual said it can cause frequent disconnects (requiring a router reboot).

I’m still using Butch as a router, with the router serving as a Wirelss Acess Point + giving me two free LAN ports.
