wow – AAMI insurance

I am quite amazed. I had thought that comprehensive insurance for us would ridiculously expensive. Figures I had from RACQ were $2,000 per year with a $1000 excess! This is because we are under 25, and have not held an insurance policy before.

However, Alison contacted AAMI and they insured us comprehensivly for $476 per year ($800 excess) and have given us a rating 1. Why? Well, neither of us have had an accident in the last three years, and this is what AAMI judges you on — not your age. I thought there was a mistake when I first heard that figure, but this is simply AAMI’s policy. Furthermore, if you take a free diving instruction course (one day), they refund you 10% of your premium and future years are also at 10% less — this is great because Alison is less confident driving in Brisbane than in Rocky where she learnt how to drive, so it is ideal! And, if we don’t have a prang in the next two years, we can keep the rating 1 for life.

I’m starting to sound like an ad, so I better stop. But I am quite amazed.

They have insured our car for $9,400 which is the value they have given it. I’m happy about this too, because even after spending a small fortune servicing the car so that she now purrs, we still got it for a bargin with the addded benifit that there are now no outstanding mechanical problems!

pure poppycock

I have heard some crazy predictions form the Channel Nine finance news report in the morning two times now. They claim “and the stockmarket will rise today after gains on the US markets overnight”. What crap! While rises in the US markets are a good indicator, it’s a bit rich saying that our market “will” follow suite. This morning they toned it down to “should” which is still quite a bucket full.

Half an hour ago I heard on Nine News that the market was down across the board today.

Why don’t they just stick to predicting the weather?

MPlayer

If you watch movies on your computer, I highly recommend MPlayer.

It is available for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows and will play just about every movie you throw at it. The codecs for MPlayer are modified and just sit in a single directory – unlike with windows where each must be individually installed.

MPlayer links can be found under Software in the Omega Delta site menu.
