Michael D. Cameron Revealed
And so it turns out that it was all three of my suspects – Paul, Rhys and Dave, as revealed Sunday night:
[7:32pm] <divzero> I have narrowed it down to three (hmm maybe I should add Trish to the list?)
[7:33pm] <spiff> I don't think so
[7:33pm] <Cameron> Maybe it was Paul's friend Michael{
[7:34pm] <Dave> Or Rhys friend Cameron
[7:34pm] <Cameron> or that D_ fellow?
[7:34pm] <spiff> or all 3
[7:35pm] <Cameron> That's absurd Paul, then the price of the prank would be split three ways and it isn't evenly divisible by 3.
[7:35pm] <divzero> This conversation almost feels choreographed
[7:35pm] <Cameron> Why would you say that?
[7:35pm] <divzero> All three of you were in on it wern't you?
[7:35pm] <Dave> yeah - and one of them wouyld have to have a credit card...
[7:36pm] <divzero> But what signifigance did "Michael D. Cameron" have?
[7:36pm] <spiff> Paul *Michael* Doessel
[7:36pm] <Dave> D. Schiefelbein
[7:36pm] <Cameron> Rhys *Cameron* Parry
[7:36pm] <Cameron> Now that *was* choreographed
[7:37pm] <spiff> wait for it
[7:37pm] <Dave> cmon will - you can do it
[7:37pm] <divzero> Michael D. Cameron?
I’m kicking myself I didn’t solve it. I had at one stage thought of middle names (though not knowing people’s middle names did not help). Having the D in there is a bit of a trick really, not following the middle name pattern and all (I was wondering at once stage actually if the D was for Doessel).
Well done though, ’twas a clever prank, I tip my hat. It’s nice to have closure on the prank too!
Alison was quite releaved that I didn’t have a stalker.

Photo Order
I will soon be putting in another Photo Order at my photo lab. If there are any photos of mine that you would like a print of, please contact me before Tuesday the 29th of November.
Where fore art thou Michael D. Cameron?
Rhys Parry (of The Mill fame) has been rather extensivly investiagting the Michael D. Cameron mystery.
I am quite grateful for his efforts, but is he perhaps doing a little *too* much? Does he have some inside knowledge? Is he Michael D. Cameron?
His analysis of the poem is good, especially the “Ace” part which I didn’t pick up on (and thought was probably the weaker part of the poem, poetically wise). Was it a little *too* good though, or is that just part of his job.
A Credit Card would not necessarily have been needed if Interflora was used (I guess), though the more likely option is that the web site was used. Which is an interesting clue. Certainly I agree that Paul could get his hands on one if he needed, Dave might even have been happy to risk his number for such a prank.
Admitidly, Rhys was not high on my suspect list though I have always wondered if the time would come when he would serve up his revenge with a killer prank of his own.
The thing is that there is actually rather few suspects on my list. Until now, I have not actually announced on the Internet that I was employed by Bullant Studios, and the prankster no doubt knew this. Only Alison, my close friends, family and work mates (obviously) were in the loop. My work mates didn’t really know I liked Java (until then). Alision I think I can rule out (admitidly I did think it was her at first, but she would have signed her own name if she did it which she assures me she never would). Most of my family I can also rule out. Being that only my close friends and family knew, it has to have been a prank. Now if I take the set of people who knew and union it with the set of people who enjoy the occasional prank, and I am left with:
- Paul
- Dave
- Rhys
Michael D. Cameraon has just joined IRC and it is looking suspiciously like Rhys:
Cameron [rhys@CPE-60-226-46-185.qld.bigpond.net.au]: Michael D. Cameron
Dave has also joined but he doesn’t know if he is “Dave”, “Rhys”, or “D_”.:
Whois : D_ [Rhys@60-240-251-69.tpgi.com.au]: Dave
(if it is Dave trying to be sneaky then he’s not being all that sneaky since he did login to ICQ and IRC simultaneously)
Paul swears his innocence though constantly voices his thought that there must be some clue in the name and while he has a point, one has to wonder: how is he so sure?
Rhys mentioned: “This was a well thought out prank and the pranksters will be revealed. If not today, then surely some other day.” I wonder if today is that day?
Here is a photo of the Vase by the way, it’s pretty chunky – I wonder if it was the bigger one?

Who the #$%@ is “Michael D. Cameron”? [updated 2005-11-18]
Today was my birthday and some joker decided to send to my work a large bouquet of flowers, mascotted by a teddy bear, tied with a big pink ribbon and a card which read:
Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
you love Java
and I love you.
You are my Ace
lets share
another cup of
Java soon.
Happy Birthday
Michael D. Cameron.
It’s not a work mate, they wouldn’t include the Java reference. Only a handful people know the name (and therefore could figure out the location) of my new place of employment. Revenge will be swift.
Update 2005-11-17
Upon inspection it appears the flowers are in a fairly heavy glass vase which surprised me. They were delivered from Jane Price Florist and the vase is priced at $25-30. All in all I am guessing the package cost between $70 and $100 (the teddy however was free). So this wasn’t a cheap prank. That makes me a little worried :-S

Here is a photo of the flowers on my desk:

Glen Waverley – a high risk crime area!
My previously recommendable car insurance company informs me that Toowong was a “low risk” area and Glen Waverley is a “high risk” one warranting a doubling of premium !? Bit of a joke if you’ve ever seen this suburb.
