BF2 Crashing – gaa
I guess it’s nothing new. But still, was rather annoying last night when BF2 seemingly did not like the new graphics card drivers I installed (which I installed to get Supreme Commander working, but that’s another story). I didn’t just crash but caused XP to bluescreen with some infinite loop ( for(;;) perhaps? ) error message.
Looking into the problem today I found this BF2 Tweak site. They mention game start issues (a common one I have is that I double click the icon and nothing happens…). They recommend ensuring XP is in 60Hz mode (it was), and trying to change your XP resolution to 800×600. Sure enough it works! The game launches, flickers then goes to whatever res you set it to in-game.
Paul – I wonder if this might solve your BF2142 issue which was similar IIRC (game wouldn’t start). The site also has a less comprehensive BF2142 tweak guide. Since it’s the same engine, it may work. There’s also a new BF2142 patch out which could help you (or harm you…).
In Other News
The Northern Strike BF2142 booster pack is out soon (preload in 4 days). Some people are complaining it’s just an EA rip-off, though for US$10 it’s at least cheap. I like the idea of “close quarters” fighting, as I enjoy the Titan end-game. Hopefully they may deliver on that. A second trailer is out now too.
Download F.E.A.R. Multiplayer
I noticed today that you can download the complete multiplayer version of F.E.A.R. for nothing. A clever idea for a game that was marketed mostly for its single-player mode, I shall be giving it a try.
